Relay Labour

Frequently asked questions.

For builders and project managers

  • How quickly can workers start?

Standard mobilisation is 24 hours from a confirmed brief, with a minimum engagement of 4 hours per shift. For established clients on repeat work, we can move faster. Urgent workforce requests placed by phone are answered same day, and where a crew is available and compliant to the site, they can be on the ground the following morning.

  • Who employs the workers?

Relay Labour employs the workers directly. We handle payroll, superannuation, workers compensation insurance, and PAYG obligations. On site, the host contractor directs day-to-day work. This is a standard labour hire arrangement and it is the model regulated by the Labour Hire Authority.

  • What compliance documentation do you provide?

Tickets, inductions, licences, and insurance certificates are supplied before the first shift. Where a project requires site-specific documentation, Safe Work Method Statements, or particular reporting formats, we prepare and submit them to the standard the contract requires.

  • Are you licensed?

Yes. Relay Labour holds Victorian Labour Hire Licence VICLHL08383. The licence is verifiable on the Labour Hire Authority register at labourhireauthority.vic.gov.au.

  • What do your rates include?

Rates are all-inclusive. Payroll tax, superannuation, workers compensation insurance, public liability insurance, and Relay Labour's management of the placement are covered within the hourly rate you are quoted. No separate on-costs are added to invoices.

  • What areas do you cover?

Metropolitan Melbourne is our primary catchment. We also service regional Victoria for civil and government programs where the crew composition and travel arrangements make sense for the contract.

For workers

  • How do I apply?

Submit the application form on the Careers page with your details, experience, and current tickets. Suitable applicants are contacted for an interview and induction. We keep applications on file when there is no immediate placement available.

  • How do I get paid?

Relay Labour pays weekly, direct to your nominated account, based on approved timesheets from the host site. Superannuation is paid on top, and PAYG tax is withheld. Payslips are issued each pay run.

  • What do I need to start?

At minimum, a current White Card, the tickets relevant to the role you are placed in, right-to-work documentation, and appropriate PPE. Site-specific PPE requirements are communicated before the first shift, and additional inductions or tickets required by a particular project are organised in advance.

  • Is the work consistent?

It depends on the role, your tickets, and the run of work across our client base at any given time. We are honest about this: we build our client base to keep placements consistent for reliable workers, but no labour hire company can guarantee unbroken work. Workers who show up, work well, and hold the right tickets tend to stay busy with us.
